Motivation comes from setting a goal and having a plan to achieve it. Putting your mind toward doing something makes it easier to achieve it. When you set a goal, it is helpful to put a plan together for how you are going to make it happen. If you want to get better grades, you know you need to study more. If you want to make a team, you will need to practice. If you want to earn your next belt, you will need to work extra hard. Setting up a plan and sticking to it helps to keep you motivated and on track. Remember to hold yourself accountable for meeting your goal and track your progress.
That being said, staying motivated isn’t always easy… Sometimes staying motivated is tough, but we have to remember to never give up. Staying motivated is especially important in martial arts. You need motivation to master new skills both physically and mentally. When learning a new skill becomes difficult, your motivation will kick in and keep you going. Here are some ways to keep your motivation on track to hit your goals.
- Set a timeline for when you would like to achieve your goal. If your goal is to learn a new skill, put a day on the calendar you would like to have it mastered.
- Take part in a competition. Preparing for a competition will keep you on track and make you work harder.
- Practice, practice, practice. Don’t wait for your instructor or your parents to ask you to practice. Do it on your own and keep a log of the progress you’re making.
