THE PURGE — A DIFFERENT TYPE OF CLEANSE – KING TIGER MARTIAL ARTS CHESAPEAKE
No, we are not referencing the 2013 thriller/horror flick directed by James DeMonaco. We are talking about the food in your house, car, office, etc. When it comes to being healthy and fit, exercise is only part of the equation. It is very important to be physically active, but we can’t have the blinders on focusing solely on that part of the formula. When we lead a healthy lifestyle, it’s the combination of nutrition and exercise that helps us maximize our efforts. The foods we eat are the fuel we have to work with. What are you fueling yourself with? Is it the high-test, clean gas, or is it contaminated with a bunch of garbage and impurities? When it comes to food, if it’s there and readily available, you are probably going to eat it. It’s challenging for most people in the beginning. When we start to make those lifestyle changes with exercise and eating healthier, our will power isn’t where it should be for the vast majority.
During this time, it’s a good idea to purge your refrigerator, pantry and any other place you keep food of things that are highly processed and low in nutrition. It’s not just the cookies and snack cakes, it’s the crackers, chips and ther low nutrient, highly processed and/or full-of-sugar foods. If we cannot eliminate them altogether, we should at least minimize our intake of those types of foods. If they are not there when we have a craving, it’s a lot harder to eat them.
Go through any place you have food and get rid of all or at least, the vast majority of foods that hold little to no nutritional value and replace them with foods that do. Of course the snack cakes are probably going to taste better than the baggie full of carrots, but if you don’t have the snack cakes there, you won’t have to make that choice. No. This does not mean to binge on those foods as your last hoorah prior to making the shift. It’s like having a past boyfriend or girlfriend from a tumultuous relationship hanging around. It’s never a good thing. Make a clean break and free yourself from the negativity they bring.
Just like anything else, if you are unsure of what to do, educate yourself. Read up on eating healthy, nutrition and fueling your body properly. Seek out the authorities in this area to help you out. Professionals will better guide you than just winging it but, a start anywhere is a start!
Let’s recap. The purge is getting rid of all the “junk” foods you have. Foods that hold little to no nutritional value. Replace them with foods that do. Foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains. If you are unsure of where to start or what to do, educate yourself and seek out the assistance of an expert. It’s challenging but, you CAN do it. Set a date for your purge and stick to it! Whether it’s today or tomorrow, take action. Your healthier self is counting on it!
